"Reverend : Haven House Part 4"

At 4 AM, Jaclyn snuck out of the house with her bags and Artemis on her leash. Everything was packed up in the suitcase, and the dog bed was under her arm. She walked to her Van unlocked it and placed her things inside then locked it back up again and walked Artemis around the garden letting her sniff and do her business. Collecting the stuff she bagged it and placed it in the outside bin. She made it back inside and up the stairs and grabbed a shower. She had just enough to fit in a backpack in her room and she was soon bathed and changed into day clothes. She had the plan laid out in her mind.
Breakfast was served between 6:30 and 7:30, and Jaclyn was the first down for it. She had pulled her hair into a high ponytail and was wearing a blue button down shirt over a pair of black slacks and loafers on her feet. Artemis sat at her feet and ate the bowl of kibble she had prepared.
Kai laid out the breakfast in the chafing dishes then scampered back to her room to get her school bag.
Jac didn't look at her and Kai didn't look at her at all.
Jac was just finishing up when Peter and Simon entered. Both men ignored her and she ignored them. She stood and with Artemis on her leash left the dining room.
As she exited, Mary came down the stairs. She looked at Jac. “You start at midday.”
“I know Mrs Elwys told me.”
“Are you staying in?”
“No, I need to go find a phone shop.” Jaclyn said, and with Artemis on her heels, headed upstairs to ‘get her purse’. She came down the stairs 5 minutes later as the front door opened.
A tall well built white haired man entered with Monica at his side.
Jac pulled Artemis back to her heel and eyed the man cautiously.
Monica came forward “Ah Jaclyn, this is Reverend Dwayne Marrs”
“Sir” Jaclyn said, adopting a shy attitude.
“The Reverend is the head of the local church.”
And that was meant to make her think what? Jaclyn nodded. “I- I was heading into town. My phone needs replacing.”
“Oh and you have the directions to the Food Bank?”
“Y-Yes Ma’am, I will be there before noon.”
The man stared at Jaclyn as she spoke and she felt the spot between her shoulder itch as she moved past them and out the door. “Nice meeting you Sir.” She said and picked up her pace.
He watched her go and raised an eyebrow at Monica. “Shy”
“Yes, and she is wary around the men.” Monica replied softly.
“And Kai is?”
“This way” Monica led him back to the kitchen.
Kai was finishing the washing up of the kitchen dishes and her school bag was on the deal table.
“Kai, Reverend Marrs is here”
She turned, her face blank. It was the look she always adopted when he came by. “Reverend”
"How are you today Kai?" He asked casually.
"I am well Reverend, thank you." Kai replied.
"Good. Do you have time to pray today?"
She knew better than to say no. "Of course Reverend,” She said softly. She knew better than to argue or dissent against him. She had learned that the hard way years ago.
He motioned to her and she came over and she and Monica both knelt down and the Reverend began to pray.
