Aryel Part 5: Road Rage

Posted on Thu Jun 15th, 2023 @ 3:16pm by Watch Leader Frederick Hollywood

Mission: Findelion Watch - Villains
Location: The Crossroads
Timeline: Present

After having loaded up the Trans Am on provisions things seemed to be going smoothly. Weeks went by and while they had not found any sign of Aryel’s Lorde at any of the portals into other dimensions the faithful follower felt that David was leading them along the right path.

“Maniac” blared from the car's sound system. “Are you telling me you never heard eighties music?” David couldn't help but laugh a little. Sometimes the little goddess knew things about his world and other times she looked so clueless. His grandkids hadn’t been much different really.

“No, no!” Aryel shook her head making her golden locks fly about. “My Lorde was much more into a band called Metallica. My favorite song was ‘Creeping Death’ because everyone in the crowd would start chanting along with it.” Noticing a hint of her traveling companion's disappointment she tried to reassure him a bit, “But this song is lovely.” She twirled her fingers through the air to the sounds of the music.

David had started to wonder if this Frederick Hollywodd was from some post apocalyptic future. After all it seemed like this civilization of hers only had bits and pieces of his world to remember it by. Hopefully if he was still in the future one of these strange portals would lead them to him. His talismans had been keeping them heading in a direction of course the old man had no idea what they might find when they arrived.

Suddenly a bright light flashed ahead of them. Five strange creatures appeared from nowhere on the road ahead. The shaman’s senses told him these were entities of great evil. He slammed on the brakes and slid his trusty steed almost connecting with the closest of them.

Aryel flew out of the T-top straight up, summoning her massive bone sword.

“Kamalak! Creatures of light! They will try and bar our way to the prime material plane no doubt! Kill them swiftly my brothers!” The eight eyed demon barked out orders from a mouth that looked like it belonged on a mantis. The closest creature to the car simply shoved it back down the road. It tumbled end over end.

The golden goddess would have rather talked to these beings but it seemed they had something else in mind. If it was war they wanted far be it for her to hold back. She streaked from the sky cutting the first of the demonic creatures in half. Swinging her sword in a back circle she cut another in half going from his groin to his head.

One of the remaining three with a whole for a face unleashed some sort of fiery red energy beam from its gaping maw. Yet another shot a sickly green ray at her.

Aryel sidestepped the red ray with ease. The green ray was a bit trickier; it followed her movements and connected. One of nine, she thought to herself. If her magics held up there should be eight more chances for her not to be injured in that way today. Of course there was no chance she was going to test that. The small impish woman streaked around the offending demon who had fired the red ray and sliced his head off. This time a glow escaped him and entered her sword. At least that still works she couldn’t help but notice.

The multi-eyed demon punched Aryel so quickly it caught her off guard. Not expecting something so big to move so fast. He moved quickly and circled her, punching the small woman in the back of the head.

Third time, Aryel counted. One of these two would most likely land another blow so she chose the speedster to go down first. Quickly flying in a loop behind the spider eyed creature she rammed her sword through his back.

The creature shriveled up and a smokey glow went from the creature into the heart of the bone sword. The last of the demons fired his bright green acid beam again.

The golden girl's face suddenly contorted. “You should have run.” She flew at the dark being and cut his head off. Then she made a pose atop one of the corpses. “See David? I am a champion!” When no response came, Aryel quickly raced to the side of the car. It hadn’t dawned on her that something so mundane as the car rolling could have hurt her guide.

When she looked in the car there was a lot of blood pouring out of David’s chest. Quickly she tried a healing spell. Nothing happened. The spell hadn’t even fired off. When she tried the lowest spell of that order and nothing happened the mephit became frantic.

Just when all seemed lost an idea came to Aryel. One that would have a dire cost. “It's okay David, you just hang on. I am going to get you someplace for help.” She opened the trunk of the car and then carried the shaman to the back of the car and loaded him in. “I hope you understand my healing spells are not working in this place, but I know my other magic is working. So I am going to try something from the necromancy line.” She drew a pentagram with other symbols on the top of the truck and then began to chant. David’s spirit was drawn from his body into the car for safe keeping. Then Aryel performed one more spell. This one would ensure his body would stay in its current condition until they could reach help. The blood loss from the body ceased and the champion was relieved to see that had also worked.

David awoke feeling strange. Like in a dream of sorts. As though he was drifting just above his car. “What happened to me?”

The radio turned on suddenly and Aryel heard an all too familiar voice. It sounded distorted like many of the songs she had heard come through it. “Well you were dying and I stored you in your car.”

“So am I a ghost?” The old man never figured this would be his afterlife.

“No no, you are what we call a mechanical construct empowered by a human soul.” The mephit was glad to hear him talking. She had been afraid to be alone again for what might be a long time. “Once we find your body, all that needs to happen is either break the spell or break the thing holding you to this world.”

“Please try and not make it my car. Those are really hard to find around here.” David decided to play along for now.

Aryel hopped in the driver's seat. “Ready to go?”

“So you know how to drive now Miss?” She had never offered to drive before, so Sixkiller had asked an honest question.

“Do I have to know how to drive?” She asked.

The Black and White Trans Am roared to life looking even more pristine than before. “I guess not.”

The duo raced quickly down the crossroads once again in search of whatever place her Lorde had made off too.

“You do know in my world there is a television show based on something like this. The guy even drives the same kind of car.” David laughed a little.

“Oh, was it any good?” Aryel wondered if she could see it someday.

“Oh yea.” With that Sixkiller played the theme song from that show over the radio for her to hear. It seemed he could access all sorts of things to play in the car now. Like the antenna was working once again.
