Physical Description | Frederick’s long blonde hair goes down to the middle of his back. If to some people his face looks a bit famous this is because during the hydra reconditioning process (at least, so he believes) the computer aided him in selecting the most desirable features from people in his memories, which are typically out of some movie from his youth. His build is quite athletic, though, that is due totally to the reconditioning process, as far as he knows. Something the man from yesteryear was quite happy with, seeing as he was a pudgy, unhealthy man before. His skin was still quite pale, something the system didn’t see as needing to be changed. This may have been due to his own personal taste in the pale and gothic. His taste in clothing tends to also run into a millennium Goth Rocker look; lots of chains, leather and trench coats. Again, likely influenced by too many vampire flicks of his day. His nails are normally kept long for quite a few reasons. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Frederick looks at the world through rose colored mirror shades. Everyone is either already dead, or just a ghost in the machine in his own, personal universe. Likes to make references to movies, TV shows, and games, because to him many of the characters in them seemed more like family than the one that he had.
Strengths & Weaknesses | Frederick’s greatest advantage is his mind. His imagination can sometimes think of answers logic can not. Sometimes he sees solutions to problems before thinking them through. His dire need for human connectivity has brought him to where he is in life, and that can be used against him. |
|
Ambitions | To make the world the stuff of dreams. To make anyone pay who stands in the way.

Personal History | Sickly and alone most of his life. At the age of fifty two one of the NPC’s (Aryel) from his favorite game came and took him to another world. Then after what seemed like a lifetime she swept him away to the future of a parallel world from the one he came from. There an evil organization drafted him into trying to change the past so that a cataclysmic future would be avoided. In this future that organization although not a force of good felt guilty for what it had wrought. Once sent on his mission to save the past he stopped in feudal Japan for martial training and a vacation. His next stop was farther into the past. Fred had hoped to learn magic from the great merlin himself. Instead he was taught by the great wizard’s own teacher, Queen Maab. -----. They had all left him. His hospital bed always let him know he was alive. The pain of those steel bars pushing into just the right pressure points of his back seemed unbearable. Only the escape of his dreams of better days (Some in places that never existed.) could release him for that hell for a few hours of the day. Soon the morning nurse would make sure to continue on the torture even prisoners of war had been forbidden from receiving. They believed his mind to be mush from the injections they gave him to keep calm. Frederick had learned just not to keep complaining. At times he would think back and consider how when he came to this place it was only supposed to be temporary until his health got better and instead was being used as his convalescent home. Seven years of the doctors talking to him like a child. The nurses saying they understood but still just acting like part of the government hive mind. This went on until one night a voice like an angel came to him in the night. “Are you ready to go Fred?” After all he had been through. All the years having such a weak grip on madness she had finally come to him. She was four foot tall. With golden skin. Her bat-like wings hung over her shoulders and her eyes had one solid color. Her armor was very ornate and rivaled some of the best artwork he had seen. The broken man’s eyes filled with tears. He would have said it seemed sudden or unexpected for dementia to sit in but in all honestly it was something that both ran in his family and his life had pushed towards. “I guess this is really it huh old girl?” His half smile-grimace told her allot about what was on his mind. Aryel acted a bit surprised at Fred’s reaction. After all as one of his fantasy characters she was in a way a creation of his. She explained very logically that the universe she hailed from was parallel to this one. It wasn’t lost on him that she had used an explanation he would understand and perhaps have even used. It was enough to calm him down and take her hand. That was all she needed to whisk him away to the start of his new life. Standing on the balcony of a massive pyramid Aryel pointed out to the city beyond. “Do you see it’s the world we created together?” They explored the world that long ago Frederick and his friends had created. “You remember the best thing about this place don’t you?” That was an easy answer for him. “You mean that everyone can become a god?” She grabbed his arms and shook him a bit, reminding him just how strong she was supposed to be. “Exactly and where I am taking you next all that is possible and more.” He felt the hook but was just too hungry to care. “Oh really?” He looked her over. He never was too good at telling if someone was lying in part he didn't care unless it affected him and like in Aryel’s case he was half focused on other things. In her almost childish way she nodded and asked. “So are you ready to begin your new life? Ready to change everything to the way its supposed to be? Make those who stood in your way pay?” When the grey haired man nodded she touched his forehead with two fingers and a flash shot through him. For a moment he felt like his body was dying maybe it had all been a death rattle like seeing one's life flash. As most of his life had been in the fantasy world maybe that was it for him. His hazel eyes shot open and he could see a small window in front of him. Feeling his arms and legs pinned down made him feel a little claustrophobic. Suddenly there was a white haired woman's face on the other side of the small window in his face. “Mister Hollywood please remain calm. The adjustment to our timeline may take a while.” She was not kidding. Frederick’s lungs felt like he had smoked a carton of smokes in a day. Although if something more was from it must have been masked by his many other aches and pains. The woman’s voice was quite calm and collected, also reminding him of another character from another fantasy world. “Please try and remain still for the next procedure. This will take quite a while. You may wish to grit your teeth.” This new pain was at a whole new level. A mixture of fire and electricity running through the old man’s entire body. His jaw felt so tight that he worried his teeth would break. His teeth had always been a concern and had always given him trouble. “Frederick Hollywood...” The woman spoke again after what seemed like an eternity of pain. I may have only been minute but it just seemed longer. “We have chosen you because your hopes and dreams fall in line with our own needs. Also you will be easily overlooked in history. Although we have watched you for a long time there was no way to extract you without raising suspicion until your current age. The world will believe you died in that hospital on that night Aryel took you.” Although taken might not be wholly accurate. Oh what was that saying about the willing. The process went on for a long time. Thankfully the pain dulled shortly after the serene lady spoke. In a short while a video of sorts began playing on the window. “This is the history of the known world. Much was lost in a great cataclysm.” The “movie” seemed like something Fred and his old friends would have really loved back in the day. Some of the “characters” were like supermen to him. Some could fly, others could read minds. They battled back and forth for any and all reasons. One thing that didn’t escape the would be actor. The politicians were still crushing the little guy and in fact seemed to be behind much of the chaos. Once the pain stopped and the history lesson ended. Next came what seemed like technical courses aimed at bringing the misplaced man’s understanding of the devices he might need to use day to day up to date. One particular device the “white woman” (As Fred came to think of her.) taught the old student to use was a time travel device. It was explained to him this would be the centerpiece of his mission. The white haired mistress went on to say his mission would be to travel back in time and fix errors in the past that had led to an apocalyptic future. Suddenly Frederick realised he wanted something to eat and this made him worry. He only wanted something to eat out of habit and craving. He didn’t feel hungry at all. Again that fear he had when crossing over to this place washed over him. Maybe he was dead. Or maybe something even worse had happened. Also the people outside this robotic coffin had not been very forthcoming with food or drink. Drink dammit, his mind recalled. Not thirsty either. The only thing that kept him from screaming out was the logical reassurance that even if he was dead it wasn't the oblivion he had always feared. He hoped it wouldn’t be too much longer before they either let him out of the “pod” or sent him on his way. Service Record So if those people thought he was not going to take a few pit stops before trying to carry out some vague mission. They had chosen unwisely. With his ultra modern inner ear bluetooth ish connection to a micro computer on his wrist Frederick could understand all the people around him. As he wandered the streets with a few coins he spotted what appeared like a tea house tucked in a very dark alley of tokyo. It was amazing to see all the people in fetal garb and being so polite. He ran a hand down his new black kimono with red dragons emblazoned on it. He wiggled his big toes in the somewhat strange shoes. As a teenager he had owned a pair of “Ninja Tabi Boots” but these were like Armani's compared to those and for all Fred could tell it was just the common look. He desperately wanted one of those samurai swords but decided to wait on that knowing better. It seemed a bit strange when upon entering the establishment that these people gave him a far more stern look. Hollywood did feel it was both a mixture of distrust and lack of fear. As he tried to scan the room without staring anyone down he noticed most of the people in the room even some of the female diners had weapons. “Dammit!” he thought. He tried to look at some of the decor calmly. Especially the windows and other entryways. Then in a very inconspicuous corner of a window just near the door was a very tiny jade dragon. Again his mind screamed, “Dammit!” Not that he minded rubbing elbows with the criminal underworld but he wasn't even sure if a non member was allowed in. “Ah well.” He calmed down. “Just remember if something horrible happens just leave quickly and then maybe double back someplace else.” A grinning geisha walked over to him and according to his earpiece asked if he would like tea. He bowed just a bit to her and she giggled as the golden haired man stood so high over her. The petite woman lead him to a table clearly normally reserved for a few people. Hollywood did like his tea and began making a cup in the manner he had seen. Also watching others hoping for tips on the process. Unfortunately in that respect most of them just stared at him for now, content to just watch the giant play with the tiny cups. Then came Sake, the inwardly old man who had a thing for rice wine and wondered what the good stuff might be like. After pouring a small cup and tasting it. His tongue was delighted at the extra flavors that had been added. His big blue eyes softened a bit for a moment forgetting that he might be surrounded by the local crime syndicate. Then as he had done at many sushi shops he poured a half cup of tea and mixed the rest with sake and a touch of honey. Again the bright white face came to him with a smile. According to his interpreter, the petite geisha was asking if he would like food. “Hai” he replied with a grin most likely a bit to wide. True to form she walked away calmly and so smoothly he could imagine her feet gliding over the floor. Then poof she was gone. Back the graceful woman came with a tray of goodies ranging from steak a favorite amongst the Americans, a local favorite fish stew, sweet rice balls, there were even some little candied treats he couldn’t identify. “Domo!” The plate was arranged quite nicely. He started in on the steak right away. As he dined he could over hear a few of the more interesting customers talk about rice merchants. This gave him an idea. After all, unless his history was way off, rice was money. So after drinking and eating his fill he left the rest of the coins he had already pilfered for the nice lady and went out the door to find a less crowded place like maybe an outhouse. ----- Back in the twentieth century Hollywood began the first part of his plan with a small amount of money. He went to Hong Kong and purchased the largest amount of rice he could. At pennies a pound and spending two thousand US dollars it came to quite a large amount. He had that placed in a shipping container to be sent to the US. Then he went in the huge box and transported the massive lot to his ship and then went back to the next day in feudal Japan. ------ This process was also a little convoluted; he took just enough rice down with him to obtain one oyabun worth of gold. Then he used that to rent a warehouse for an extended period. Then he had the rest of the massive shipment of rice teleported to the warehouse. The idea hit him that it's always better to have a local with an in and well a face for a deal like this. So he made his way back to the tea house at the edge of town. At first he didn’t see the diminutive woman but he sat down and waited, figuring the staff might throw her at him again. In short order she came with that smile. In his “best” Japanese he asked, “Would you care to have some tea. I would like to discuss an important matter with you.” Trying to summon every bit of etiquette he could from almost anything he had ever read of this place. Realizing most was a bit fantasised. The woman sat down with just a nod. Hollywood tried to explain that he would like her to help him deal with the rice merchants. He also said that it was mainly due to the fact she knew the people and language better. Of course he did add that it didn’t hurt to have a smiling face. He let her know the terms. Ten percent of whatever the rice traded for. He knew roughly what it was valued at but also had read that people would try and shave as much off the top as possible. So quite quickly worried the strange man was about to try and flood the market she asked just how much he was talking about. When he explained that the total would come to almost two hundred and seventy four Oyabun. Her mind quickly deduced that this was two hundred and twenty thousand pounds of the food currency or one hundred and ten tons. If she could help him it would be a decent day's pay. After a bit more discussion they headed out to the financial district of the massive city. Hollywood felt like a kid at some sort of amusement park based on Japan. If he really could change things this would be something he would like to help develop. A massive cultural center that would represent the many times and places that filled his fantasy life. His eye darted all around and at times a stray smell would catch his attention. Some people might think that he liked the geisha because they might be considered subservient. This was only part of the tail. In some of Frederick’s favorite stories Japanese warrior women often clad themselves in geisha like outfits. Those delicate fans could hold dangerous secrets. Blades and or poisons could be hidden behind those smiles. His business partner was a very likely suspect of having just such tools of this trade. If he was still in his forties he would likely be fawning over a bit more. His real life had taught him that that sort of thing was best left for luckier people. It was one of the reasons when Nexus took him he felt like he had won the lottery. His mind wandered a bit back to the days spent with Ariel. Was she just a toll of the system or something else? Was she ever there? He wanted to hope so but knew she was likely some sort of trick of the mind. At The Dōjima Rice Exchange that represented many of the most powerful members of the independent banking system that had been formed in the Edo period in the year sixteen hundred and ninety seven. It was ornately decorated with lacquered woods, bronze and copper. With its massive amounts of stonework it also looked quite defensible. Crossing the small decorative bridge to the entrance he took note of the large golden carp swimming about below wishing he had some treats for the aged fish. At the door the two entrepreneurs were met with a questioning man that Hollywood figured might either be just a guard or a Domo acting as a concierge. Hollywood’s translator could keep up with what the two said but it was like watching a movie with the soundtrack offset just a bit. The beautiful mysterious white faced woman set up an appointment with one of the broker's she seemed to know by name. This was about an hour wait so they followed the man to a small room and then brought some tea and some treats. He guessed from the quality of things she either had made an impression on the man or maybe even knew him from previous encounters. She watched him eat like a scientist studying a virus under a microscope. It didn’t bother him that much as it made him wonder if he was testing the dishes for her. When she spoke to him he almost choked because she had been so quiet. She inquired where he was from. It was always easier to be honest even when lying he always said. “Orlando, Florida, one of the greatest places on earth. You should go if you get the chance.” She could tell by his face there was more hidden in that answer. Last she had heard Florida was a swamp. Something was definitely wrong with this tall man from Orlando. Behind his constant smiles was a silent despair that had long ago dipped into rage. When his eyes drifted out of the here and now she wondered if at some time he had given into it completely. “Would you like to hear a story?” he paused but before she could answer he continued. “I have always found stories to be a great way to pass the time and visit places we can alway dream of,” His massive toothy grin came back that accented that devilish look in his eyes. She nodded. Stories were also a favorite pastime of hers because of who and what she was. “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a man whose life had never amounted to much. One day a magical blue portal appeared and whisked him away to a magical world. This fantastical land was called Findel. The ruler of this great land was a god of balance, and concordant opposition named Delvin the Black. He informed the man that his dreams had helped shape the world and in thanks helped him to become a great adventurer. Still the one thing that eluded him was love. Try as he might none of the beautiful creatures he had crossed paths with and battled with had fallen for him. Not that he hadn’t tried to win a few hearts or two. Then for his great deeds in helping the druids, the keepers of the land, he was invited to a summer solstice festival. Then at its height he was urged to try and find his familiar. When no creature came to him the man assumed the spell had failed to work. At the party he happened upon one of the most beautiful creatures he had ever met. She looked like a golden skinned devil. They danced and drank and tripped the light fantastic and then ran off into the night and lay together in the living wood. The next day when he awoke and looked over to see if the impish girl was still there it hit him. The link he had cried out to Delvin filled his mind. He could hear the girl's thoughts and dreams and best of all they were of him. She was is Familiar his companion and would be so until he died.” Towards the end the story geisha could see the man’s eyes glass over. Like he was seeing the place he spoke of. She slid him over a stiff drink of green tea and a few herbs to try and pick up his energy levels so he would be ready for the meeting. As she did she quietly said something very important. “My name is Abusan.” The time tossed mad man smiled a little when the translation came through. About the time Frederick got the interesting concoction down the sliding door opened and the “Domo” entered letting the young woman know that the appointment was ready for her and her guest. They followed him down through the building almost to what the large man figured would be near the center. Then after a light rap on the wood next to the door the guide opened the door moving out of the way in a very polite manner. “Thank you very much.” Almost laughing forgetting to say it in Japanese. Maybe it would look better anyway and put the Merchant at ease. The office space looked like it would have been more at hope in a New Amsterdam’s lawyers place rather than a Rice Merchant’s Bank. Of course with great wealth and influence came refined tastes, and he would be the last person to poke at someone for being eccentric. So they were offered to sit down in large black leather barcaloungers. Just right for Hollywood, but making his middle lady look like a wee folk from one of his games. The Merchant introduced himself and the pair returned pleasantries. After that he only spoke to the petite woman. Likely Fred figured if the big guy needed to know anything she would interpret for him. They spoke quickly and again the words didn't keep quite the pace with what was happening. She seemed quite adept in the world of money and power. Two things crawled into his mind. How much of a coincidence was it that he had met someone like that, and was it one of those temporal causality laws. Like the one that if something is supposed to happen the universe will make it easier for that thing to happen. He didn’t really care what it was as long as she wasn’t an agent of Nexus or Hydra. OK maybe hydra but even that would likely be rife with hidden dangers. In short order the young woman had not only achieved his goal but upped his asking price. Rice crops had been in fact doing quite poorly for a few years and this long life rice would go a long way. Also she had pointed out that if treated right this might be the beginning of future endeavors with the white devil. He liked that. When they walked outside he counted out what was there. Five hundred gold oyabun it was nearly double. He wanted to throw his arms around her and twirl her around like a little girl. Instead he counted out one hundred of the shiny new gold coins and handed them to the young maiden. After which he asked quickly. “So I don’t know what you're up to later but I may have another mission for you. We could discuss it over more food and maybe something fancy to drink to celebrate. This time we might want to get a private room as this is more of a sensitive nature if you get my meaning. She nodded with what looked like a very genuine smile, not that he had any reason to think any other smile she had made was disingenuous other than when she bared her teeth at the Merchant earlier. Off they went to the little tea house on the edge of town. Once there the little white fairy brought him to a private room and slid the door shut. After having quite a bit of comfort food and drink Fred leaned in close to her and tried to whisper quietly. “Do you know of a place called Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū particularly if the legends of them teaching things like Aka i ninjutsu are true. I have read some grand stories based on that place and if they are even loosely based in fact I think this training might help me focus my mind and body.” That would be a tail for another day. |
